Rabbi Bob Alper is the world’s only practicing clergyman doing stand-up comedy … intentionally. Ordained from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Rabbi Alper served as a pulpit rabbi for 14 years. Additionally, he holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary.
As a comedian, Rabbi Alper can be heard regularly on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. He has performed stand-up comedy at the Improv and the Comedy Store. He has also appeared on The Early Show, Today Show, Good Morning America, the BBC and CNN.
He is also the author of three books, and recently was appointed the ‘comedic advisor’ to the pope. Rabbi Alper achieved this unique distinction by winning a competition that included over 4,000 people from 47 different countries. His submission was deemed the best of all that were told. One can only wonder if the pope called Rabbi Alper and offered him a hearty – Mazel Tov.
